CUCUMBERS OR CHERRY TOMATOES (F) <\/span>We\u2019ll give you one or the other, depending on the first harvests of each \u2013 just a small tasting with many more to come.<\/p>\n

SUMMER SQUASH (F\/P) <\/span>The ubiquitous summer vegetable \u2013 easy to prepare and good in so many ways.<\/p>\n

SWISS CHARD (F\/P) <\/span>A gorgeous bunch from the splendid patch.<\/p>\n

KOHLRABI OR BEETS (P) <\/span>Your choice: <\/span>clean and crunchy or complex and earthy.<\/p>\n

CARROTS (F\/P) <\/span>Another round of carrots, this time topped for better storage in your refrigerator.<\/p>\n

BASIL (F\/P) <\/span>Italian basil for a real taste of summer.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Also this week: <\/span>Bread of Life delivery<\/p>\n

Next week: <\/span>More squash, cucumbers and tomatoes. <\/span>Onions and beets.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Weather: It\u2019s been a scorcher this week. <\/span>The farm crew is now starting at 6 am to avoid the heat of the day. <\/span>We harvest and hoe in the morning and save shady or low-impact jobs for the afternoon. <\/span>If you are coming out to the farm this week, please come prepared with hats, water bottles, sunscreen, etc. <\/p>\n

<\/span>The Fields: The fall planting continues. <\/span>This week brussel sprouts, kale, collards and chicory were seeded. <\/span>We are also planting the last of the summer crops in the fields: <\/span>another round of melons, squash, cucumbers and beans. <\/span>We are thrilled to see the summer crops beginning to bear fruit. <\/span>We have picked the first tomatoes, mainly the cherries but also a few of the bush varieties. <\/span>There are young little melons growing in the melon patch and loads of flowers on the cucumbers. <\/span>Today we planted the long-awaited sweet potato plants. <\/span>We\u2019re hoping that the tender sprouts will survive the blazing sun and heat while they get their first roots established. <\/span>A heavy dose of irrigating will surely do the trick.<\/p>\n
